Dear Parents,
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
We hope this message finds you and your family in the best of health and Iman. This week, we are focusing on the important theme of truthfulness in our school. As truthfulness is a core Islamic value, we want to encourage our students to reflect on the significance of being truthful in their words, actions, and character.
What is Truthfulness in Islam?
Truthfulness is a key part of Islamic teachings. It is more than just speaking the truth; it involves sincerity, honesty in actions, and remaining faithful to our promises. Truthfulness strengthens relationships, builds trust, and brings the pleasure of Allah (SWT).
“O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are truthful.” (Qur’an 9:119)
Hadith on Truthfulness
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A person will continue to tell the truth until they are recorded with Allah as a truthful person. And lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to Hellfire. A person will continue to lie until they are recorded with Allah as a liar.” (Sahih Muslim)
This powerful hadith reminds us that consistently telling the truth brings us closer to Allah and Paradise, while lying brings negative consequences in this life and the next.
How Parents Can Support Truthfulness at Home
- Model Honest Behaviour: Children learn by observing their parents. Demonstrating honesty in your daily actions, even in small matters, will leave a lasting impression.
- Encourage Open Communication: Create an environment where your child feels comfortable telling the truth, even when they’ve made mistakes.
- Praise Honest Behaviour: Acknowledge and praise your child whenever they tell the truth, especially in challenging situations.
- Discuss Real-Life Examples: Highlight the importance of truthfulness in friendships, during exams, and when completing homework.
- Truthfulness in Academics: Explain the value of integrity in their studies and the consequences of dishonesty.
Real-Life Example from the Prophet’s Life
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was known as Al-Amin (The Trustworthy) even before his prophethood. Encourage your child to follow his example by being truthful in all aspects of their lives.
Together We Can Foster Truthfulness
We encourage you to discuss this theme with your child at home throughout the week. By reinforcing these teachings, together we can help our children grow into responsible, honest individuals who embody Islamic values in their daily lives.
Jazakumullahu khairan for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education and moral development.
