Supporting Mental Well-being: An Islamic Perspective
At DHLNW, we recognize the importance of mental well-being for our students, staff, and the wider school community. Islam teaches us to care for our minds and hearts, just as we care for our physical health. This Mental Health Week, we encourage everyone to reflect on their well-being and foster a supportive environment for each other.
Islamic Guidance on Mental Well-being
- πΏ Tawakkul (Trust in Allah) β “And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him.” (Qurβan 65:3). Relying on Allah brings peace and eases anxiety.
- πΏ Prayer & Dhikr β “Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Qurβan 13:28). Regular salah and dhikr can bring calmness and clarity.
- πΏ Seeking Knowledge & Reflection β The Qurβan and Sunnah provide wisdom on patience, gratitude, and resilience. The Prophet (ο·Ί) said, “The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although there is good in each.” (Muslim).
- πΏ Physical & Emotional Care β “And do not throw yourselves into destruction.” (Qurβan 2:195). A balanced diet, exercise, and sufficient sleep help maintain mental and physical health.
- πΏ Good Company β The Prophet (ο·Ί) said, “A person is upon the religion of his close friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.” (Tirmidhi). Surrounding ourselves with positive, supportive people helps maintain well-being.
- πΏ Giving & Helping Others β “The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people.” (Tabarani). Acts of kindness and charity uplift the soul and strengthen community bonds.
