Qur’anic Verse (with meaning)
Surah At-Tawbah (9:36)
إِنَّ عِدَّةَ الشُّهُورِ عِندَ اللَّهِ اثْنَا عَشَرَ شَهْرًا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ… مِنْهَا أَرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌ… فَلَا تَظْلِمُوا فِيهِنَّ أَنفُسَكُمْ
Meaning:
“Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve… of which four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them.”
Hadith (with meaning)
The Prophet said:
السَّنَةُ اثْنَا عَشَرَ شَهْرًا، مِنْهَا أَرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌ…
Meaning: “The year is twelve months, of which four are sacred…”
أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعدَ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ
Meaning: “The best fasting after Ramadan is in the month of Allah, Muharram.”

What To Do
- Increase prayer (al-salah)
- Give charity (al-sadaqah)
- Fast, especially in Muharram

- Al-zulm (injustice to yourself and others)
- All sins (lying, backbiting, etc.)
- Arguments and disputes
- Neglecting obligations
