As-Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
We pray this message finds our school community in the best of Iman and health. As we enter the blessed month of Sha’ban, we take this opportunity to remind ourselves of its virtues and the importance of preparing for Ramadan.
The Virtues of Sha’ban
Sha’ban is a significant month in Islam, serving as a bridge between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a time for spiritual renewal, as the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) increased his worship during this month.
“That is a month to which people do not pay much attention, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which deeds are taken up to the Lord of the Worlds, and I like my deeds to be taken up when I am fasting.” (Narrated by An-Nasa’i)
How Families Can Prepare for Ramadan in Sha’ban
To make the most of Ramadan, families can use Sha’ban as a time of preparation:
- ✅ Increase in Fasting: The Prophet (ﷺ) frequently fasted in Sha’ban. Aisha (RA) reported:
“I never saw the Messenger of Allah fast for a complete month except for Ramadan, and I never saw him fast more in any month than in Sha’ban.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
- ✅ Seeking Forgiveness & Making Dua: Encouraging children to engage in sincere istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and dua helps develop a stronger connection with Allah.
- ✅ Increasing Qur’an Recitation: Now is the perfect time to establish a daily Qur’an habit as we prepare for the month in which the Qur’an was revealed:
“Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree.” (Surah Al-Qadr 97:1)
- ✅ Giving in Charity: Sha’ban is a great time to instill the value of sadaqah (charity) by encouraging children to donate and help those in need.
- ✅ Setting Spiritual Goals for Ramadan: Families can set personal and collective goals, such as completing the Qur’an, improving salah, and engaging in extra worship.
A Message to Parents
As parents, you play a key role in shaping your children’s spiritual journey. We encourage you to:
- Create a Ramadan schedule for worship, learning, and family activities.
- Make iftar and suhoor special moments of family bonding.
- Discuss the importance of fasting, self-discipline, and gratitude.
May Allah bless us in Sha’ban and allow us to reach Ramadan with strong faith and good health.
Jazakum Allahu Khayran,
