Theme of the Week: Sharing and Selflessness

At Darul Hadis Latifiah Northwest, we strive to instill the noble character of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in our students. This week, our focus is on “Sharing and Selflessness” (الإيثَارُ وَالمُوَاسَاةُ)—a core Islamic value that encourages kindness, generosity, and putting the needs of others before our own.
Islamic Guidance on Selflessness
Allah (ﷻ) says:
“And they give them preference over themselves, even though they are in need.” (Surah Al-Hashr 59:9)
“And they feed, for the love of Allah, the needy, the orphan, and the captive.” (Surah Al-Insan 76:8)
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“None of you will have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Lessons from the Life of the Prophet (ﷺ):
  • Sharing His Food: The Prophet (ﷺ) always shared his meals, ensuring that no one around him went hungry.
  • Sacrificing for Others: When a hungry man sought food, the Prophet (ﷺ) asked his companions who would host him. One of the Ansar took him in and ensured his guest was fed before himself. (Bukhari & Muslim)
  • Concern for the Ummah: Despite personal hardships, the Prophet (ﷺ) always put the needs of his followers first.
  • The Generosity of Hunayn: After the Battle of Hunayn, the Prophet (ﷺ) distributed wealth generously, prioritizing those in need.
  • The Example of the Muhajirun and Ansar: The Ansar selflessly welcomed the Muhajirun, offering them their homes and wealth without hesitation.
Encouraging Selflessness in Our Students
At school, we encourage students to:
  • Share their belongings, time, and knowledge with peers.
  • Support one another and practice kindness in daily interactions.
  • Participate in charitable activities and understand the rewards of giving.
  • Learn from the Prophet’s (ﷺ) example and apply these values in their lives.
How Parents Can Reinforce This at Home:
  • Encourage children to share with siblings, friends, and those in need.
  • Teach them about the rewards of charity and involve them in small acts of sadaqah.
  • Share stories of the Prophet (ﷺ) and the Sahabah (RA) to inspire generosity.
  • Lead by example—children learn best by observing kindness and selflessness in action.
May Allah (ﷻ) bless our students with the noble character of the Prophet (ﷺ) and instill in them a lifelong habit of generosity and care for others.
